2014! Bledhen Nowydh Da!

Bledhen Nowydh Da!  Happy New Year!

Welcome to a Foot-Stompingly Sparkly 2014!

Hope you've had a 'Nadelik Lowen' & enjoyed the festive season.

We've been spending time with friends & family, and the huge pumpkin has been a real hit this week, particularly roasted with garlic, rosemary & coconut oil (thanks, Jane!)!

Sparking Saturdays Cornish Dance Workshops enter a fourth year after the very first Cornish dance workshop at the Liskerrett Centre as such creative activity was sparked from the Vital Spark and the dance 'Fer Lyskerrys'.

Since then, lots of the original dancers & musicians have come back, sometimes regularly, sometimes out of the blue, and new folk have appeared, keen to have some foot-stompin fun with Cornish dance.  We've danced out in the streets of Liskeard whenever the weather, inclination or occasion suited, & Scoot Lyskerrys played out for the first 'Big Nos presents...' at Sterts this autumn to great acclaim.  This year Scoot Lyskerrys have been invited to perform at the Spring Nos Lowen in St Austell & as part of the Dance Festival at the Royal Cornwall Show, and to host the Cornish Dance Society Ceilidh on the Friday evening of the Gorsedh Kernow in Torpoint in September.

Last year, the 'Sparking Saturdays' style Cornish dance workshops supported the first Callington MayFest, including the development & launch of 'Callington Furry' through the streets of Callington.  A number of the musicians, dancers & supporters have been keen to continue Cornish dancing in Callington, so the workshops have continued with a focus on Cornish step and the more complex set dances as Kamm Kelliwik:Dons Kernewek.

Festival season for Cornish dance workshops with 'Scoots Kernow' included Wimborne Minster Folk Festival, Yn ChruinnaghtSidmouth Folk Festival & Cornwall Folk Festival.  Watch this space for this years' festival season.

'Sparking Saturdays' Cornish Dance Workshops will be back at the Liskerrett Centre, Liskeard every 2nd & 4th Saturday morning from 11th January for Cornish social, set & step.   Kamm Kelliwik:Dons Kernewek will be back in Callington Scout Hut every 3rd Saturday of the month from 18th January with Cornish set & step.

And it looks like a new series of workshops will begin in Launceston, Cornwall very, very soon once I can figure the best time of the week to host them (either Friday evenings or Saturday mornings), supporting demand from folks in Lanson & the surrounding area, and hopefully Causley at the Castle in June.  More to follow...

A couple of big Cornish dance nights coming up very soon too...Degol Stul - Twelfth Night in Porthtowan this Saturday, & either the Hangover Ceilidh with The Brim in Perranporth, or the AberFest Fundraiser with Ros Keltek in Perranwell on the 18 Jan. Details here in the Cornish Dancing Diary...

Here's wishing you & yours a sparkly, healthy, happy & prosperous 2014...and of course lots of Cornish dancing!

Dha weles skon! See you soon!

Carmen :D
