Sidmouth Folk Week - Cornish Troyls, Workshops, Sessions & Displays

Dydh Da! Good Day!

Last week was #speakcornish week, and Kemysk made a #10sFylm singing "Happy Birthday" in Kernewek to our Anna...

WOMAD last weekend has been absolutely bryntin!  I've picked up the Pizzica dance from Salento in the far south of Italy from the beautiful Anna Cinzia Villani, along with the Kopanitsa steps from the amazing Turkish singer/dancer Cigdem Aslan.  Lovely to see our Welsh neighbours 9 Bach too!  Huge thanks to fRoots magazine and the WOMAD team for the best ever World of Music and Dance festival!

Maybe we'll see some Cornish music and dance there in the future...

Keslowena Sidmouth!

It's the Diamond Anniversary for Sidmouth Folk Week beginning on Thursday.

I'll be dancing out with Kemysk Cornish Dancers over the weekend: dance displays, a Saturday morning workshop and a Sunday late afternoon Troyl in the Anchor Gardens.

Thursday and Friday, I'll be running Cornish dance workshops up at the school:

  • Thu 11:15 - 12:45 - Cornish Social & Set Dances
  • Fri 11:15 - 12:45 - Cornish Scoots, Broomsticks & Challenges
  • Fri 15:00 - 16:30 - Reeling: the Cornish picture in association with the Instep Research Team

Full details of the workshops can be found in the full Sidmouth programme and on the Cornish Dancing Diary page

Monday and Thursday sees the return of the evening Steppin' Time up in the Rugby Club, and I'm aiming to get up there to share a few Cornish step dances with our friends in Southern England.  Musicians and dancers of any persuasion are most welcome!

And there's a good chance you'll find our 'Scoot Lyskerrys' sax player, Carlton out busking Cornish tunes on the sea front too...might join him for a spot of foot-stompin' fun over the week.

That's all for now!

Dha weles skon! See you soon!
